About

Urban gardening is nothing new, even in a concrete jungle like New York City. But the sheer scale on which green spaces are sprouting up around the city these days is something worth talking about. This blog supports the amazing phenomenon by providing information, tips, success stories, and shared experiences.

Gardens and green spaces are important to urban neighborhoods for many reasons. Urban gardens provide locally grown produce for consumption, improving health and reducing a community’s reliance on fossil fuels. Gardeners have greater cardiovascular health as well, because the activity offers good exercise. Gardening creates a sense of community and social responsibility, and provides opportunities to meet new people who share a common interest. Plants of all types increase the beauty of a space, and help people feel a greater connection to the environment. Urban gardens improve neighborhoods and bring residents together.

Our dream is to see the number of urban green spaces continue to grow, whether they are community gardens or single family projects. By providing an online space where gardeners share knowledge and experiences, we hope to give inspiration and encouragement to others, and do our part to help drive the urban gardening movement.

If you know of a passionate gardener, beautiful space, or special event you think others would like to know about, please email us.
